What is liquid food coloring used for?
Liquid food coloring is used to add color to your cake designs and other baked goods, mainly in simple recipes but also in drinks, pancake batters, light frostings or jellies.
It gives a softer, less intense shade than gel dyes , making it a good choice for coloring large quantities evenly or when a pastel color is desired.
Liquid food coloring is usually added drop by drop. It is recommended to start with a small amount and then gradually adjust depending on the desired shade.
It is best to mix between each addition to observe the evolution of the color, because it is easy to put too much and difficult to correct if the color becomes too dark.
Liquid food coloring does not require any specific equipment, but for more precise dosing, you can use a pipette or dropper.
For some applications such as food painting , it can be mixed with a little icing sugar or melted gelatin to create a thicker texture. It also combines easily with liquid preparations such as milk, syrups or beaten egg whites, making it convenient for desserts requiring these types of ingredients.
