Is Silicone Mould an ideal Choice?
Unlike classic moulds like round moulds, silicone moulds come in a wide variety of shapes.
Flexible silicone allows for much finer designs that will be printed on the cake. The overall shape of the mould is also much more moldable, enabling its owner to make real pastry sculptures. To choose your silicone mould, we therefore advise you to refer to two criteria: the brand and its shape.
As for our favourite professional quality brands, you are probably familiar with Silikomart silicone molds! It is an Italian brand that has been offering colourful and shaped moulds for years, whether for logs, individual cakes, or pastries.
Along the same lines, Pavoni is also a well-known brand for silicone moulds. Like its competitor, it offers a variety of very extravagant shapes.
These are two brands of silicone cake moulds amongst others that you will find in this category.
You can decorate your pastries with edible decorations to make them even more appetising.
Choosing your Silicone Mould
When choosing a silicone mould, pay attention to its thickness: the thinner it is, the more your preparation will brown when it cooks.
The quality of the silicone also comes into play when choosing the mould: always choose platinum silicone which is a guarantee of quality.
Otherwise, a simple test is to pinch a piece of silicone between your fingers. If it whitens and stays white, then it is a low quality mould.
The quality of a silicone mold will also affect the temperature at which you use it.
Indeed, when you go to buy your mould, the temperature must be taken into account for your choice. Usually, the silicone mould resists temperatures ranging from -40°C to +260°C . Enough to make baked cakes, desserts or frozen desserts easily with perfect demolding.
An entremet is historically French. It referred to small dishes served between main courses. Nowadays, they refer to small desserts, often individual ones.
Did you know that floating islands, crème brûlées, and Bavarian creams are called "entremets"? But also larger, more innovative desserts that you can make with Silikomart moulds.
The silicone entremet mould is a classic, since it often involves eccentric shapes.
Rectangular,Round or Heart-shaped Silicone Mould
Thanks to the wide variety of shapes they offer, you will find silicone moulds for all occasions and holidays of the year!
You will find a multitude of individual moulds to prepare superb desserts. Silicone will allow you to create exceptional shapes: pine trees, gingerbread men, small squares, 3D strawberries or cherries cakes, domes and many more. Flying saucers, logs in the shape of a mountain or a cottage: you will be surprised by the number of different shapes that silicone moulds can take. You will make an entrance with your dessert for sure!
Whether you opt for a biscuit or a frozen dessert, the multitude of uses and recipes that these cake moulds allow is impressive.
Directions for use
At Autourdugâteau.fr, we will support you even after you have purchased your silicone mould. Here are some tips to make the most of it!
How do I use my Silicone Cake Mould?
Follow these tips:
- Before filling the silicone mould with your preparation, it must be clean and dry. If this is the first time you are using it, wash it first with a little hot water and dish soap.
- When filling the mould with batter, be careful not to fill it to the brim, so your cake will not overflow during baking.
- When you put your silicone mould in the oven, place it on a baking sheet so that it is stable.
- To make it easier to remove the cake from the mould, spray this latter with release spray or butter it before pouring the preparation. However, this step is not mandatory since silicone moulds have the advantage of being non-stick. Once the cake is baked, turn your mould upside down onto a flat surface and gently press on the bottom to release everything.
Are Silicone Molds Dishwasher Safe?
Yes, silicone moulds are indeed dishwasher and oven safe!
Their material allows them to withstand high and low temperatures. A silicone mould is the guarantee of a baking utensil that is easy to clean and lasts!
To properly clean your mould, you may need to turn it upside down. Silicone moulds with many shapes can retain material in hard-to-reach spaces. After washing it, you can use a toothbrush to scrub the corners of the mould to ensure it is perfectly clean.
Why is my Silicone Mould Sticky?
If your mould is sticky, it is either cheap, meaning the material is of poor quality. Or you did not dry it properly. These are the two main reasons why a silicone mould would stick to the cake.
As a consequence, we advise you to dry it thoroughly with a cloth and then leave it in the open air. If you want to be sure that it is completely dry, put it in the oven for 2 minutes at 100°C, this will also disinfect it.
If your silicone mould sticks when you unmold it, let it cool for about 10 minutes. It should come out very easily after cooling down a little.
Why is my Mould turning White?
Don't panic, it's definitely not mold!
White marks on silicone moulds are often grease residue. Their micro-alveolar structure rejects the grease from your preparations. If they are not properly washed, these residues will settle and create the white marks. So make sure you maintain them well!
Maintenance of Silicone Baking Moulds
The best way to keep your mould lasting is to pamper it!
You have several ways to wash it for this:
- By hand with a little warm water, dish soap and a non-scratchy sponge.
- To sterilise it and dry it well, put it in the oven at 100°C for 2 minutes.
- Your silicone mould is also dishwasher safe, so enjoy! However, read the instructions carefully because some mould brands do not support this washing method.
