What is a wafer disc?

Wafer discs are edible images to be placed on cakes. They are an unleavened bread dough, so the wafer disc has no flavor. It can be compared to the consistency of a host or unleavened bread.

Wafer discs are made from wheat flour or potato starch, corn starch, and water. The resulting plates are printed with edible ink. This product is usually gluten-free and vegetarian (although you should check the product sheet to see if this is the case).

As mentioned above, the wafer discs in this category are printed with edible ink , so the design possibilities are endless! You will find wafer discs for princesses, men, girls, but also in our other category of customizable wafers !

How to place a wafer disc?

Using these decorations is relatively simple, however you can find the technique for placing a wafer disc on our blog.

Wafer discs are not suitable for so-called wet cakes, as the sheets will not withstand humidity. If you want to decorate a fruit tart or a strawberry cake, for example, you will need to use a sugar disc, therefore an edible photo.

No matter the theme of your cake, you have several techniques at your disposal for placing the wafer discs.

Place it on your cake. The easiest way to use a wafer disc is to place it directly on your dessert, no need for other tricks your Minnie decoration will hold perfectly on your cake, if your wafer round does not hold you can use a little piping gel. To decorate a cupcake on the other hand you will need to use mini wafers .

Cut it out and make it stand out. We see a lot of cakes with raised wafers in cake design, to do this you have to cut directly into the sheet! It's a little more technical. For example, for a Minnie wafer, we cut out the little mouse and glue it onto sugar paste with piping gel. Then we reassemble the wafer disc and the character. Minnie will then be raised in relation to the rest of the wafer.

Cover your cake completely with wafer paper. You don't need any major cake design skills for this technique; just use an edible cake border ! Cover the top with a wafer paper disc and the edges with the border, and you're done!
